The theory of the four primitive elements, born in the 5th century century BC, in the mind of the Pre Socratic’s philosophers (Ampedocles), is the beginning of a concept of the word. A mixed of poetry, science and philosophy. Throughout the ages, it has been the root of many interpretations in various domains. This thought belongs nowadays to History : Socratic’s school, alchemy and all forms of Arts (from painters to musicians). Its weight of symbolism is obvious and pregnant. So, I’ve just tried to contribute to this symbolic representation.

Spirit of winter

The power of the flame

Ha, the power of the flame, burning brightly.
Giving light to the darkness.
Handing strength over to the uncertain.
Adding warmth to the cold.
Lending taste when uncooked.
There is power in the fire.

Double fire

CA “El foc té dues cares. Ens pot il·luminar, però també pot destruir. Aquesta dualitat potser li confereix un poder misteriós, estrany, fascinant i peculiar.”

EN “Fire has two faces. It can enlighten us, but it can also destroy. This duality perhaps gives it a mysterious, strange, fascinating and peculiar power.”

Fire, a complex natural force, can be our friend and foe. It can be used for specific purposes such as generating heat and warmth, and for cooking. Also, fire can act as a protective shield in certain situations. For example, protecting us against wild, hungry animals while camping.

However, fire can cause massive destruction and loss of life if it is ignited with negative intents such as people starting fires for no good reasons. Mother Nature can also initiate fires when we lease expect it. For example, lightning strikes on dry grass and timber.

As with most things in life, there are positive and negative sides to fire. Handle the fiery beast with care and respect, and it will look after you.

Inevitably it is necessary to give a historical perspective of this yearly festival that takes place in the city of La Paz, Bolivia in the first week of June. The celebration transforms and stimulates the social life of La Paz every year, emanating from a particular way of understanding and living Andean Catholicism. The Parade begins with a procession through the western part of the city. This procession is central to the event, involving 40,000 devotees who dance and sing in an offering to the patron saint. The dance has a sacred significance for the sixty-nine fraternities involved, which are greeted in the streets in a euphoric atmosphere where the music of 7,000 musicians resonates. It is so owe inspiring that it is rightfully a UNESCO Wold Heritage event (Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity). The image venerated with dance and music is believed to have arrived in the city at the founding of the convent of the Mothers of the Sacred Conception on the 8th of December 1663.

Seven sunsets over the sacred lake Titicaca, La Paz.
This is the first of 2 projects on Lake Titicaca in the department of La Paz, provincia Murillo. The lake is considered to be sacred by both Cristians and Aymara natives. In 2012, the Global Nature Fund nominated the lake "Threatened Lake of the Year", pollution being the main cause and the constant receiving waters; in 2023 the water level went down by 3 meters.
